You might have heard of groundworker insurance, but are not exactly sure of what is entailed or who, in fact, needs it. Well this kind of insurance is vitally important for some people, so it is important to understand not only if you or your business needs it, but why you might need it.
Groundworker insurance covers any worker who is working on the ground at a construction project. This can, for example, include people working on the roadside or on the road, or workers on a building site large or small. These are the kinds of people that need to take out this sort of insurance, or that need their boss to take out this kind of insurance to cover them. This is often demanded by UK law.
The places that groundworkers tend to work in are, naturally, fraught with a certain amount of danger. You can make any work environment as safe as possible, but there are always risks, and these are made that bit larger when working around tools, heavy machinery, and members of the public whilst driving (if that is the case for that particular project).
Other things can be covered by a groundworker insurance policy. For example, the vehicles that groundworkers and others on the site might use to work. It is usually a company vehicle, and so having them protected by an insurance policy is also highly recommended. Machinery that is essential to the work itself can break down as well, leaving the groundworkers with no equipment to do their job with.
