Fish and Chip Shop Insurance – Battered Christmas Pudding

Now here’s an establishment which will no doubt have good fish and chip shop insurance.

Because when you offer your customers deep fried slices of Christmas pudding, you’d best have the best fish and chip shop insurance there is.

The fish chip shop in question is called Guilano’s and is situated in Newburn, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and set out its Christmas stall by offering this culinary take on festive fayre.

But it turns out that it’s not the only ‘odd’ food it has been deep frying.

Owner Lewy Guilano told the media that his fish and chip shop had experimented with a number of ideas. He said: “We have been doing fried Mars bars and Snickers since the idea first came up in Scotland.
We also do Cream Eggs, but they are a seasonal thing, so in the run up to Christmas I decided to do something else seasonal and came up with the idea of giving Christmas puddings a try. You can more or less fry anything, as long as it's not going to fall apart and taint the oil. We also do a deep fried jam sandwich for 30p which is very popular with the youngsters around here.”

It’s 50p for a slice of deep fried Christmas pudding and the shop has done a brisk business.

Health experts who were asked for an opinion as to the merits of foodstuffs which have been deep fried, said that as long as they were eaten in moderation (say once a fortnight), then it would do no harm, but just make sure your favourite takeaway has top fish and chip shop insurance.

  2. You may find that standard business insurance may not cover your very specific business risks, and therefore you will not be covered. Chip shop insurance however will be tailored to match your business and budget.
